Dear all,
I have both Webmin/Virtualmin in their newest versions installed and would like to stop ProFTP permanently from running, because there is no need for FTP on that server. But whenever I stop ProFTP via "Webmin->Servers->ProFTP->Stop Server", it keeps restarting and is back online after some time. Is there any background monitoring in place that restarts "assumed" failed services? I would appreciate any hint on how the deactivate ProFTP (without uninstalling) on a permanent basis...
Thanks in advance & with kind regards
A.

Howdy -- thanks for contacting us!
If you look in Webmin -> Others -> System and Server Status, do you see any monitoring rules for ProFTPd listed there?

Hi andreychek,
thank you very much for your fast reply! That was my first thought too, but I see nothing there that I would relate to ProFTP. I will attach a screenshot to the OP...
Kind regards

Thanks for your screenshot!
The next place to look is in System Settings -> Features and Plugins.
Is the ProFTP feature disabled there?
If not, I'd suggest disabling that, as Virtualmin may be thinking it's doing what you want by re-enabling a service it thinks should be active.

Thank you, andreychek!
Indeed, ProFTP was enabled there. I now disabled it, stopped the server again (it got restarted as usual in the meantime) and will now wait for some time to see what happens. I will provide feedback here, no matter what happens.
Enjoy your day & thanks again
