Navigating Virtualmin

This tutorial will cover some basics on how to navigate Virtualmin.

It assumes you have first [logged into Virtualmin](/documentation/tutorial/how-to-log-in).

Virtualmin is divided into two panes, the left menu pane and the right content pane. The most common operations have menu items in the left menu.

Users logged in as root or a sudo-capable user with ALL privileges will have access to every Virtualmin function, all domain accounts, as well as the entirety of Webmin.

Domain owner accounts will see a limited and simplified view of the system, with only the options relevant to managing a single website. Domain owners can be granted more or fewer privileges by the root user, based on their needs and level of trust.

Reseller accounts also exist in Virtualmin Professional. This type of account is in between root and a domain owner account, in terms of privileges. A reseller account can create new domain owner accounts, as well as manage all of the domain accounts they have created.

Switching between Webmin, Virtualmin, and Cloudmin menus

Every Virtualmin system will have a Webmin tab and a Virtualmin tab in the left-hand menu.

This selects between Webmin menus and Virtualmin menus. Webmin provides general purpose systems management features, such as user/group management, listing processes, managing installed packages, network settings, firewall settings, and more.

The Virtualmin tab provides access to domain account management functionality, such as creating new domain accounts, new databases associated with those accounts, installing applications, and more.

Finally, on systems that also have Cloudmin installed (it is generally recommended to use a dedicated system for Cloudmin, but Virtualmin and Cloudmin can be installed side-by-side), you'll have a third tab for Cloudmin functionality.
