I just installed the password recovery module
apt-get install webmin-virtualmin-password-recovery
and tested it out on my server (Webmin v. 1.840, Virtualmin 5.07, Authentic Theme 18.48).
It does not add the right Virtualmin URL to the password reset link in the email. The email looks like this:
You are receiving this email due to a request for password recovery for
the Usermin account <my-account> from <my IP>. To proceed
with recovery, click on this link :
https://:<myport>/virtualmin-password-recovery/email.cgi?id=<some-id>
I tried changing the Virtualmin URL for use in email messages setting to to https://<mydomain>:<myport>
to no avail.
Furthermore when uninstalling the package, the "Password recovery" button stays on the Usermin login page. I found another issue with a fix for this issue (see related issues).
Any ideas whats going on?

When you tried password recovery, was it for a Virtualmin domain owner, or a mailbox users?

It was for a mailbox user. Maybe I should add that the server is behind a virtual router and BIND isn't enabled.

Ok, I see the bug that causes this now - the next release of the password recovery plugin will include a fix.
The fix is here : https://github.com/virtualmin/virtualmin-password-recovery/commit/e26814...
