fail2ban module

I have been googling for a fail2ban webmin module and even though on the forum its been asked many times it's never been created.

fail2ban is widely used and it should be supported by webmin at the least if not VM.

Please think about this ???

Yeah, this does come up a lot - I'll look into it. Especially since yesterday I had to manually blacklist a few IPs that were trying to brute-force my SSH password :-(

There is also ConfigServer Security Firewall/Login Failure Daemon (CSF/LFD), which does also have a webmin package and does what fail2ban does (and more).

http://www.configserver.com/cp/csf.html

It includes the webmin module but you need to point webmin to the installed dir when installing the module from within webmin, which is explained in the install docs. It's then accessed via the webmin/system menu.

It's very powerful and user friendly. Ties into RBL's, etc.

The fail2ban module is complete, and will be included in the next Webmin release.

Can't I just do a check out and install it ?

I see a problem already.

For debian it is suggested that you use a jail.local file so that updates do not remove your jails. The default jail.conf only enables ssh.

Since there is no way to set the jail file the mod doesn't see what has been enabled.

Found another bug -- file missing --> edit_jaildef.cgi in tab "Filter Action Jails" when you click on the bottom button "Edit Jail Defaults"

Thanks for checking this out early - I'll fix those up.
