using vsftpd on Ubuntu 8.10 amd64

Finally got webmin + virtualmin working on Ubuntu 8.10 amd64 (the install.sh just wouldn't work). I can't seem to get vsftpd feature for virtualmin to work though (one wrote by Jamie Cameron at http://www.webmin.com/cgi-bin/search_third.cgi?cat=Virtualmin ). Anyone know how, other than sticking with proftpd?

Of course it wouldn't work. Ubuntu 8.10 is not a system that is supported by install.sh. We only support LTS releases in the installer and our repositories.

What problem are you having with vsftpd? Any errors? Log messages? We can't guess without any information. ;-)

Thanks for the info. I didn't know as I just thought any version after ubuntu 8.04 would be supported.. Speaking of that, do you think it's safe to use virtualmin's hardy branch (http://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/ubuntu/dists/virtualmin-hardy/) to keep virtualmin updated on ubuntu intrepid/8.10?

Back to original topic, here is what I get when I tried to install it through webmin modules:
Failed to install module from http://download.webmin.com/download/plugins/virtualmin-vsftpd.wbm.gz : Module virtualmin-vsftpd does not support this operating system (Ubuntu Linux 8.10)

Oh, OK. That just means no one has provided a config file for Ubuntu. It's not a very popular module, so it doesn't get a lot of attention.

So, you'll need to download the module yourself, install it manually (untar it into /usr/share/webmin), create a new config file for Ubuntu (probably call it config-debian, since the two are nearly identical and we all like to support the most platforms possible). Just copy the "config" file to config-debian, and edit it to make the paths correct for your OS.

Then, once that's done, create directory /etc/webmin/virtualmin-vsftp and copy config-debian to /etc/webmin/virtualmin-vsftp/config. Reload Webmin, and test it. If it works, send us the file, and we'll add it to the next release of the module.

Oh, yeah, you'll also have to edit module.info to add debian-linux to the list of supported systems in os_list.
