How to copy/move vm to another virtualmin server

This seems like one of those things that should just have a button somewhere but for the life of me I can't find it or any info on it.

I have 2 physical machines, each running virtualmin. I want to move one of the virtual servers from one virtualmin server to the other.

Virtualmin is so fantastic I just assumed it would be a simple thing and hopefully I just missed something.

How is it done?

Thanks

Rick

Hi Rick,

Virtualmin does make it simple indeed! I'm using Virtualmin 3.56 GPL, since I am not using any of the CPANEL products I use the backup button available on each of my domains. Click the domain you want to move, click on backup, you are then given a number of choices, I prefer using SSH. Check off all of the features you want backup off the original server. After verifying you have a user account you can use to log in with SSH, click backup now. On your destination server do a backup restore using virtualmin it will re-create the virtual server you are moving.

Other ways to accomplish this task is by using SCP or rsync, if you are comfortable using command line.

Great ssh worked, thanks....

now how about getting a centos vm from a VMWare Server 1.06 to an OpenVZ container!

for this you can go to centos
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Virtualization/OpenVZ

with in mind that virtualmin has VM2 module but Im not sure if that is publicly released already

VM2 will be public in a few days, I hope. Though it doesn't deal with VMWare images at all...but it has started getting some cool conversion features lately, so I wouldn't rule it out for the future. It's possible to make a local Xen image into an EC2 image, now, for example.

VM2 rocks people !! I have been beta testing it for a few months now and I simply think its the best thing for controlling multiple VM Pro servers.

It has the ability to move any domain(s) between 2 VM Pro servers via ssh/scp among other cool things like updating all scripts or updating pakages.

I don't know what Joe will be charging for it but what ever it is it will be well worth it for anyone with more then 2 VM Pro servers.
