Backup -> compression?

Hi,

I'm trying to use that backup feature of virtualmin. The backup itself works, and sends it to an ftp server..no problem with that. But he always uses a normal 'tar' format, without any compression..while compression in the general features is enabled. What do I need to do to enable compression?
