Configure godaddy

Godaddy is my registrar. I use VM Pro to handle my website. Does anyone else have this combination? I am trying to get my name server listed with godady, but it is failing. Also, I would like to be able to use mail.mydomain.com, instead of my public IP for email client server settings. If anyone has a similar setup, please let me know. I have found a guide using an old godaddy interface and ispconfig, but being out dated and another control panel, some things are different.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

As far as godaddy and your name server,

If you are making your own nameserver, you need to register the root domain and then list your namservers as the default nameservers for the root name you've chosen. Godaddy won't be happy with you just using one nameserver, so you might have to make a name and use the same IP address. THe folks at godaddy can lead you to where you need to go on their website. Likewise if you're using someone else's nameserver.

Not sure what you're asking as far as the mail goes. If you're using virtualmin it will create the MX record for you.

I had spoken with them a couple of times and they did not know what I was talking about. I had to reference the guide as the last person I spoke with was unfamiliar with the previous godaddy layout. I found what I was looking for though. Also, we will be using one of their name servers.

As far as email goes, when I set my pop server to mail.mydomain.com, I get the error "Failed to connect to server mail.mydomain.com"

Using tbird email client

Go into bind and check the record for the mail.domain. You may want to try just the domain name for your pop server. But then, if you're not finding the nameservers you won't find the mail server either.

As far as the new godaddy template I'm remiss to lead you through it (that's what they get paid for) recommending you transfer to us when we go online, but here goes anyway:

log in to your account, click on the registered root domain for your nameserver. Under nameservers you should see your nameservers listed, if not, enter them under custom nameservers. Then look to the lower right under host summary ADD your nameserver and the IP of the nameserver. Do this for both nameservers even if it's the same IP.

On your end, then, make a master record of the root domain with your nameservers listed in your primary nameserver then master records for the nameservers themselves.

Be mindful that it may take 24 to 48 hours to propagate but then again you may be lucky and it could be working within the hour.

I am sorry for the response delay. I did not make it clear on the first part, I had actually already found the location to add my name server, but thank you for taking the time.

I did what you said for email and removed the mail.mydomain.com from POP and just put in mydomain.com and it works perfectly.

Thank you.
