IDS for Webmin/Virtualmin?

It seems that Sentries project has been abandoned and even Jamie says "don't really think they are very useful in a modern system". Is there any system out there that you could recommend (and would be great if it supported by Webmin/Virtualmin) to prevent port scans, dos-attacks, etc with some sort of notification to my email address or messenger?
