Too high CPU consumption even the Webmin/Virtualmin window is closed

If that happens every 5 minutes, then it's default Webmin scheduled status collection is being run. If it happens constantly, then please run the top command as following to get full command output:

top -c

Ok. I try to do it a bit later. But for how long webmin do status collection? Because in my case it was pretty long until i restart webmin

It depends on server specs and the number of hosted virtual servers. For me on high specs machines it only takes seconds.

You can tweak and disable this option (status collection) on Webmin > Webmin Configuration > Background Status Collection page.

Ok. let me check it a bit deeper. I want to understand when it happens and for how long.

And one more question what will i lose if disable it?

So after some researches I can say

  1. This is top processes with webmin page opened. Just opened - no activities at this page. https://drive.google.com/file/d/101phF6n3if51YG8-fq9gdJFNglyQjX2g/view?u...

The top cpu consumer are

  • /usr/share/webmin/authentic-theme/stats.cgi till 36%
  • but also i saw /usr/share/webm defunct till 49%

Both appeared very often in the list. Is it ok?

I noticed /usr/share/webmin/status/monitor.pl 35% but very seldom

3 I was not able to reproduce the situation when webmin uses a lot of cpu if the webmin page is closed. You can check the video in the first post

I have made few important changes on the theme side and the way background stats are collected.

We will included this improvement into upcoming Webmin 1.971.
