hi,
we've just installed virtualmin/webmin :-
Operating system Debian Linux 4.0 Webmin version 1.390 Virtualmin version 3.50.gpl (GPL)
and i've migrated some websites to this server.. they're all working fine except for the email.. when i do a TEST ACCOUNT SETTINGS in outlook it outputs this:
Establish network connnection => completed find outgoing mail server (smtp)=> completed find incoming mail server (pop3)=> completed Log onto incoming mail server (pop3)=> FAILED send test email=> completed
as you can see all works apart from the loging on!! i have used the correct username and password (i've reseted the password about 5 times to make sure) but it keeps asking for it.. i've tried turning secure password authentication and SSL in advanced and checked that port 110 for POP is open, which it is... I'm not sure what else to try!!
i've seen in webmin there's "Dovecot IMAP/POP3 Server" with user and login options.. does anyone know if i need to simply tick or untick something in here? (ATM it's using PAM service (dovecot)).. it's beyond me!!

do you have saslauthd running ? go to bootup settings and check. Also in Dovecot, make sure something is selected in the UIDL format selection besides "other" and a blank.<br><br>Post edited by: DanLong, at: 2008/01/22 10:41
hi, thanks for your reply :) you helped me look in the right place, and i found this little option:
Disallow plaintext authentication in non-SSL mode?
Yes | No | Default (Yes)
Default was selected initially, i've changed it to "No" for now and i can now download emails :)
i guess it's not completely safe to leave it on this so we'll prob change it to SSL auth soon :)
