Virtualmin Install Problems

Hello all,

Been trying to install virtualmin for the last few days to no avail.

I am using CentOS 5 and i have tried to install various packages ranging from all of them (I know ....:P) to just the server package.

The OS install goes fine, but the problems i am having is installing Virtualmin, i keep getting a FATAL error, but when i check the Log File it says nothing.....

Just what was last typed on the screen from install.sh

I really need some help on this and am considering purchasing this software provided it does what i need, which the gpl version will do just fine but i want to support GPL software.

Any help would be appreciated

Also the only thing i have done is:

1.Install CentOS

2.Download install.sh

3.Run install.sh

4.Fails

5.Run "yum update"

6.Then I will try again....but i am not holding my breath as i did that a few nights ago just not on a server only install.

Thanks for your time.

"It doesn't work" is not a terribly useful error report. ;-)

But, in this case, I suspect I know what's going wrong for you (though maybe not, since the problem I know about has only existed for a day or so). Anyway, the Apache ssl package was broken...that's now fixed.

Give the install another try, and if it fails, please post the actual error you get. There ought to be a few lines before the failure that will give us some kind of clue about what's going wrong.

So no dice on the install,

but i am confused on how to send you the error log as i have no gui on the server and can't ssh into it.

i tried e-links but it doesnt work with your website forms.

any ideas?

Why can't you ssh into it?

But, the general gist of things might help, if cutting and pasting isn't easy. What's the last thing it tries to do before you get the FATAL errors?

Hmm...that's the problem I just fixed. Or, at least I thought I'd just fixed it. Oh, crap...I skipped synching the GPL repository to the Professional one.

Try it again.

<div class='quote'>Can i install Server GUI?</div>

It won't bother Virtualmin, but it'll waste a lot of resources to have it running all the time. But if you're not comfortable at the command line, maybe it'll help you while you get Virtualmin installed (once Virtualmin is installed, you'll also have Webmin, which is pretty much all you need GUI-wise for system administration tasks).

Hmmm...I'm not sure you're going about things right if you need a web browser on your server. ;-)

I usually do all of my browsing on my desktop machine, and copy/paste into an SSH Window when I need to download things directly to the system...wget or curl is great for that sort of thing.

Your CPU and RAM don't matter. It's downloading dozens of packages...so, your internet bandwidth is what matters. On a fast pipe, 10 minutes or less. On a slow one, maybe half an hour or more.
