Yeah, we don't like spam either. We're working on preventing spammers from posting spam, and Joe is looking into alternative Forum options.
The options of how to deal with it effectively are unfortunately very limited on Drupal, but Joe is looking into it.

BTW, I wanted to mention that we found that spammers were signing up using various disposable email address services, that's where many of the spam messages over the past few days originated from. We've since banned all those domains from being able to sign up.
That appears to have significantly reduced the number of spammers gaining access to the Forums here, and we only saw one spammer today (who used a Gmail address).
