Sorry Joe, but what about clam-av?

I know we have been writing about upgrading of clamav.

But still it's tells me it is outdated, 3 times in the logwatch evering morning.

Will there be a updated to clamav?

Operating system Redhat Linux Fedora 6 Webmin version 1.350 Virtualmin version 3.43

ah...lifes...good

I have been meaning to ask this too. I was wondering if clam-av is set by default NOT to automatically update, as I remember seeing a warning to that effect.

Thanks.

Hey guys,

ClamAV is just painful to upgrade because they've made incompatible changes to the configuration file, as well as added a bunch of hostile features (things that make clamav fail to start, thus removing all virus filtering from the chain--I can't imagine why they thought adding this kind of thing was acceptable). I'll try to get a new version rolled out shortly. The solution I've settled on to these problems is to force an overwrite of the configuration file with one that is known to work and permit startup. It's not a good solution, since anybody that has made configuration changes will silently lose those changes, but it's the only one that won't leave hundreds of Virtualmin servers with zero AV filtering.

I see the problem.

I have to be sure. The last updated for clamav was : 0.88.7-3.

Becase if I try to make a yum update clam* it is telling me this:
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Update Process
Setting up repositories
Reading repository metadata in from local files
Examining clamav-0.90.1-0.i386.rpm: clamav - 112:0.90.1-0.i386
Examining clamav-devel-0.90.1-0.i386.rpm: clamav-devel - 112:0.90.1-0.i386
Package clamav-devel not installed, cannot update it. Run yum install to install it instead.
Examining clamav-server-0.90.1-0.i386.rpm: clamav-server - 112:0.90.1-0.i386
Marking clamav-0.90.1-0.i386.rpm as an update to clamav - 0.88.7-3.fc6.i386

I know you are busy Joe, I like virtualmin, but it is irritating to now that virus software are old.

Depends on the platform. CentOS 5 is up to date (as it never had anything lower than 0.90). Going from 0.88 to 0.9x is an incompatible change (as I mentioned in that previous post). I believe the package I'm working with right now is safe, but I'm not sure. I have to test on every platform to be sure (as every platform has slightly different clam packages--most come from Fedora Extras, but since Fedora Extras aren't going to newer versions, I can't stick with their packages). I'm hoping to roll out FC6 in the next day or so, with the older platforms to follow (CentOS 5 just got 0.91.2 today).
