Virtual Domain backup/restore

I've just built a new Virualmin Pro server, and would like to transfer domains and users over to it from a GPL version (2.5) of Virualmin. I've tried backing up a domain on the GPL and restoring it to the Pro version. Everything appears to be there except for the mail files. I did instruct the backup to save email files.

The old system used sendmail and imap-wu. The new system is postfix and dovecot. I don't suppose there is any easy way to make this work other than just dropping the mail files? Or scripting the old machine to cycle through each account and forward mail to the new accounts?

I'w wary of upgrading the old machine.. I prefer not to do upgrades on operational machine... great chance of killing something. I need to do this without impacting a few hundred users that use that server.

thanks

Steve

ah...lifes...good

Hi Steve, it might be a good idea to lodge a support ticket via] Support] Customer Issues link above.

I've been a VMpro customer for more than a year now. I noticed that the forum here isn't the best way to get prompt answers and support. Questions might not even get answered at all sometimes. Use the support ticket system if you are a paid customer instead.

Thanks.. I'll probably do both. Gives the community a chance to answer and/or benefit from the discussion.

Summary on this problem:

I backed up a virtual domain from Virtualmin 2.50, restored it to a different server running 3.41. The domain transfered noely with user accounts intact and webmin sent mail folders showing up properly. But, any existing pop3 files in the /usr/mail directory are not copied.

Most likey reason that come to mind are the version mismatch (2.5 to 3.41) or the mail system mismatch(sndmail/imap-wu vs postfix/dovecot).

Would a simple upgrade of the old server to a newer GPL version give me backup files that will restore the existing mail waiting to be delivered to the users?

If not, has anyone already created a script to ftp the mail files from the old server to the new server and disect the file name (user.domain.tld) to change the owner/group to user & domain.tld? I'm rusty enough at this that it would take me a few hours to figure this out.

thanks...
Steve
