Want to thank Joe for his Youtube videos.

I'm a newbie with limited technical knowledge and Joe's videos on Youtube have been really helpful for me. I don't have a Google account and would rather not set one up, so can't like or subscribe. Could someone let him know that he can count one extra like on every video, please? I'd really appreciate a video on the problems relating to using an external DNS server. He mentioned that it's an issue in one video, but I'd like to know more before I start setting up important stuff on my virtualmin machine.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks for the kind words, Pete! I have a couple of DNS video scripts ready to record, I just haven't had time, since we've been poking at our own server problems (including misbehaving DNS servers!) and working on support for Ubuntu 18.04.

But, I should have time to make some videos this coming week; probably three or four new ones, with at least one, maybe two, being about DNS. The issues with hosting DNS externally aren't "problems", they're just differences and you have to be aware that Virtualmin can't manage your records so you have to do it all manually. So, basically, you need to know how to manage DNS records yourself; things like MX records, various records related to mail security if you're hosting mail (things like SPF and maybe DKIM). That can be complicated. I think the website preview in Virtualmin also requires local DNS (but I might be misremembering that...there's probably a way we could make it work without it, I just don't know if we do, and it might be more complicated than I think...Jamie implemented all that, so I dunno how it works).
