I have installed Virtualmin following the instructions using the install script Virtualmin Installation on Debian Linux. It installed without error. I then set up a Virtual Host/Domain and installed Wordpress Virtualmin Introduction. These both were without error. However after the install of Wordpress was complete and I was provided the install.php - <domain.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php> It resolved to a 404.
Not FoundThe requested URL /wordpress/wp-admin/install.php was not found on this server.
When I go to domain.com it resolves to index.html that I have verified is at /var/www/html/index.html
Hi Space Monkey, I am no expert here however i think i may be able to shed some light on your problem.
I note from your post that you are searching for your wordpress install in /var/www/html/wordpress/wp-admin/index.html.
If you have created a virtualmin virtual server then you might try looking instead in the following place...
/home/domain.com/public_html/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php
I suspect that apache is defaulting to its own web directory (the one you have outlined /var/www...) when in fact your files are not in that directory. I cannot explain what has gone wrong, I have just come back from a long break using web servers (other business committments) but i think you may at least find your wordpress files and now know you can move them from /home/domain.com... over to /var/www... so that it will work for you. It may be something to do with your bind dns settings or network, or default website settings i am not sure. My understanding is that the correct place for web files is actually /home/domain.com.... (domain.com is the name of the virtual server btw and may not be domain.com but another account name depending on how you named any virtual server you created in virtualmin). I am not sure why your apache isnt defaulting to /home/domain.com/public_html/...
When you setup virtualmin, did you first create a virtual server before attempting to upload wordpress files? how did you go about this exactly? Did you use the virtualmin installer script for wordpress?
I had this same problem arise only a few days ago. My issue was resolved when i deleted all of the virtual servers in virtualmin, and then recreated them again from scratch. Something i had done originally caused this but i dont know what it was. I hope i may have been of some help in pointing you in a direction that can produce a positive result.
kind regards Adam
