Having FTP Access for Sub-domain users

Hi,

I was wondering if we could add in a feature where you created a alias server on top of the parent domain where the alias server (sub domain) has its own username and password to access to its own sub domain directory folder via FTP?

It will be good for multiple users sharing 1 domain thou.

Thanks.

Best Regards, Nyit Shen

Hi Nyit,

I should first point out that an alias server is not the same as a sub-domain (technically a "sub-server", as it doesn't have to have the same second-level domain as the parent). An alias server shares everything with the parent domain--there is no difference in content or files (it is merely a ServerAlias directive in httpd.conf, along with optional mail aliases for redirecting mail, among other things). So, with an alias server there is no content to share--you would just use "Add a website FTP access user." in the Mail and FTP Users page, for anyone you want to be able to edit the content of that server.

For sub-server accounts (not sub-domains), what you're asking for is already possible, though you do have to make sure the directory or at least the content you want your secondary user to be able to modify is writable by the sub-domain group (which doesn't appear to be the default...I'll have to look into that). Anyway, you can add FTP users just like you would for the parent domain, using the "Add a website FTP access user." in the Mail and FTP Users Page.

I think this is what you're after?

My apologies to the confusion on the alias server and sub-domain. What i meant is the sub-domain.

I am using Virtualmin 3.26 GPL however i am unable to locate the Add a website FTP access user as mentioned in your reply. Where should i locate it? As my Mail and FTP users page only appear with Adding users mail but not the ftp thou.
