Hi all
I think this bw.pl is related to virtualmin ?
Can anyone tell what it is and is it normal for it do take the cpu sometimes up to 90-99% for way to long ?
Yes, bw.pl is the Virtualmin bandwidth usage processor. It is resource intensive--bandwidth usage measurement is a resource intensive task. But there may be an issue in it at the moment--there is an open bug about this process here, though the cause of the problem is unknown at this point:
I can say, however, that it is not abnormal for bw.pl to eat up a lot of CPU for a few minutes at a time throughout the day, if your server has very high bandwidth usage...and there isn't a whole lot we can do about it--the process is very simple, but it potentially has to deal with a lot of data. For most folks, it isn't a problem...but if you've got a lot of domains or a few heavily used ones, it could be for you.
Hi Joe,
Thanks for the quik reply, i will disable the bandwidth monitoring for now, to see how it will impact the cpu and examine the logs on the server.
