Ok guys I'll admit I'm struggling with this at best. Can I first say that I'm impressed with webmin and virtualmin... the script is stunning. The problem I have is me, I have some misunderstandings and that is breaking things. I've hosted a few sites on Cpanel now for at least 10 years+, but as most of them are charitable sites i now have to cut costs and host the lot at home. I have a Dell server and UPS, set up Ubuntu as a server and installed Virtualmin. this is where my agony starts. 1 I have glued my domain name at 123-reg (the domain supplier) and it points to my static public ip of my isp (where my server is ) 2 Post configuration of Virtualmin asks me to suggest a named server. So I say ns1.mydomain.co.uk but that wont resolve as the parent glue has a different information than the child. It seems that the ip addresses are different. At the register the domain points to the isp static ip, but after installing virtualmin it now points the the local server ip 3 Home routers. These are causing me more problems than I expected. It seems that the most have added a DNS suffix to the domain name. So mydomian.co.uk becomes mydomain.co.uk.home, what's the best way around this?
You need to configure Virtualmin to use your public IP for DNS records. That's in System Settings->Virtualmin Configuration->Default IP address for DNS records.
You can skip the resolvability check when configuring the DNS servers during post-installation wizard, if the names don't resolve yet, but you expect them to, or if there are other reasons resolution won't work locally.
So mydomian.co.uk becomes mydomain.co.uk.home, what's the best way around this?
I don't know what this means. Where are you seeing this behavior? I can't think of how/why domains would have .home appended to them. Where are those names coming from?

Thank you so much Joe, That did the trick. Sorry for the delay in reply but we lost power in a storm here. I have another problem, but I'll post that separately to comply with forum rules. Thanks again for all your help
