Files in /etc/webmin/system-status/history

Hi,

I'm finding that the files in /etc/webmin/system-status/history are changing regularly (something like every 5 minutes). This causes havoc with my backup software, that monitors /etc and backs up files in it as they change.

/etc seems like a very strange storage location for this kind of file.

Is there any chance it could be moved somewhere like /var?

This is a Debian install, running packages from the webmin repository.

Thanks

Andy

I assume that's a pretty old installation? Webmin has, as far as I know, defaulted to /var/webmin for those files for quite a while...maybe a year or so.

I asked Jamie how to switch on older system to using /var/ and he said to do the following: For an existing install, they can move the info file and history dirs from under /etc/webmin/system-status to /var/webmin/modules/system-status and restart your Webmin, it'll start using the new location.

That's the default on new installs, but old installs won't change it without being forced to.

That's perfect, just trying it now.

Thanks

Hi all,

Found some more files in /etc that seem to be getting updated regularly.

In /etc/webmin/package-updates, the 'current.cache' and 'updates.cache' files are being updated periodically. Can these also be moved similar to the above? Where should they be moved to?

Thanks

Andy
