Backup/Restoration thru VPN

Hi, how could I open a VPN to my NAS before the Backup will be stored on it? I already installed the pptp VPN client and setup a tunnel successfully but the Virtualmin seems to lack a possibility to open/close such tunnel prior/after backup/restoration. Is there any workaround I could use?
