Is there a way to automatically retrieve emails arriving in previous mailboxes when transfering customers to my hosting ?? transfer during time of DNS refresh so no emails lost !
I don't know if this is acceptable or not but I usually forward a copy of the email on a domain I own on the server which then forwards the email to the correct email address on the local server.
My server is configured to search first locally before searching externally.
I do let the users know in advance about the forwarding. My issue was to migrate the old emails from the old inbox but none requested that before.
There are probably a thousand ways to manage a transfer -- well, almost -- and I've just added coderinthebox's technique to the back of my mind for future reference.
This isn't "automatic" in any way, so perhaps it's not what you're looking for, but I use imapsync ( http://imapsync.lamiral.info ) to transfer mail stores from the old server to the new, if the client requests it. It can be configured to transfer only new email, after you do an initial full sync, so you can run it once and then do a few quick updates during or after the transfer. You might find imapsync in your package manager's repository. Webmin seems to have a module for fetchmail, but it has been years since I last used fetchmail.

Hi Vincèn,
