Hi all,
I have a pair of Virtualmin servers set up to host my DNS, once as master the other as slave, When I use DNS Check on MxToolbox, I always get the following message for the domain:
ns1.xxxxxxxxxx.com reported Serial 1374243228 : Suggested serial format year was 1374 which is before 1970.
Is this something to worry about, or can I just ignore it?
Thanks in advance!
Some scripts will report a problem with SOA if is not in proper format e.g. from left to right:
YYYYMMDDSS
Y - year
M - month
D - day
S - sequence number
For example if i would set DNS server today my SOA number would be 2016100201. Every time there is a change in DNS sequence number will go up by one:
2016100201
2016100202
2016100203 ....
I would suggest to properly set your SOA: https://www.ripe.net/publications/docs/ripe-203
