Is BIND necessary for virtualmin?

I'm just curious to know if BIND is really necessary to run virtualmin?

I tried to disable it for a few days and didn't see any errors, is it ok to remove it or is there a reason to keep it?

If it's ok to remove it, are there any recommended settings that should be done?

Howdy,

You only need that if your server is acting as a nameserver. If the DNS for your domains is setup elsewhere, then it's no problem to disable the BIND feature and turn off the service.

It's not always possible remove BIND entirely though, as on most distributions it's listed as a Virtualmin dependency. However, it shouldn't cause any problems if the service is stopped.
