Hi,
I have 3 virtualmin servers
1 is ns1 10.10.10.1 1 is ns2 10.10.10.2 1 is hosting1 10.10.10.3
I created a dns master slave using ns1 and ns2 but the thing is my hosting is on the other server (hosting1)
When I create a dns the ip is that is used is the ip of the dns server
The option when creating in virtualmin are:
NETWORK INTERFACE - Shared/VirtualIP (already active)
IPV6NETWORK INTERFACE - none/shared on ip /virtual with ip (already active)
EXTERNAL IP ADDRESS - same as real address / (blank textbox)
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
It sounds like what you want is:
http://virtualmin.com/documentation/dns/slave-configuration
Basically, you can setup your two dedicated boxes to handle external DNS queries, while allowing the "hosting" box to create the master records, then if you want to go one extra mile you could firewall your master ("hosting") box so that only your slaves (ns1/ns2) can query it for updates.
We use this kind of setup in our network where we have:
web1, web2, web3 - these nodes are like your "hosting" node and handle just hosting, but also the master dns records for the domains hosted on them.
dns1, dns2 - are the nodes which the "web" nodes replicate to automatically and are the ones known to the outside world for dns resolution. these two nodes handle ALL dns traffic across ALL our "web" nodes.
For more details, and/or assistance in getting this setup please feel free to contact me by email or Skype.

I already created master / slave and it is working,
The problem is when creating dns entry it uses the ns1's ip address. What i need is where to put the ip of the hosting server whle creating the dns records.

Hi,
What do you have in your "Edit Virtual Server" settings, it should be "Same as real address" which will setup your hosting account to use the IP address of that machine, which will also be added to DNS that way.
If you've made configuration changes, please outline what you did because it sounds like you mucked something up along the way.
