So I installed Virtualmin months ago. I just did the basic setup and was able to setup everything fine. The other day I tried to setup thunderbird to receive and send mail. I am able to receive mail no problem but sending will not work.
Now I've tried doing a little research, and see things talking about postfix setup, sendmail, dovecot. Just seems like there is more ways for me to screw this up.
So basically im looking for the easiest way to setup the outgoing email from clients(thunderbird, mobile phones, etc).
I do see the below in my maillog
Aug 21 21:30:52 vpsgrid postfix/smtpd[31604]: warning: SASL authentication failure: Password verification failed Aug 21 21:30:52 vpsgrid postfix/smtpd[31604]: warning: unknown[MyIPWasHere]: SASL PLAIN authentication failed: authentication failure
Any help?
The log would suggest you used a wrong password in your email client. You might want to verify that, also that you're using the right username.
Otherwise, can you specify your question a bit more? "How do I set up email clients" is a bit generic, and help about that is surely to be found via googling. ;)
The password is correct because I can retrieve mail just fine, But when It goes to send mail I get the above errors.
So I guess my question would be, did I miss something when setting up virtualmin that would prevent me from sending emails?
Howdy,
What distro/version is it that you're using there?

Add a password to your SMTP setting.
You are having the exact same issue my friend did after I set her up with a new VS and that was the solution
