what package option should I choose?

When installing CentOS 6 for use with Virtualmin, what package option should I choose?

The options are…

  • Desktop
  • Minimal Desktop
  • Minimal
  • Basic Server
  • Database Server
  • Web Server
  • Virtual Host
  • Software Development Workstation

I assume I should choose “Minimal” or “Basic Server“, but I’m not sure which?

Howdy,

While either should work fine, I'd probably just go with minimal... that'll install the least amount of packages, and the Virtualmin installer will handle installing any dependencies it needs.

I selected minimal, but when I ran the installer script for the GPL version, it told me that perl was required and it could not run.

I re-installed with "Basic Server" and the script worked.
