How do you map a sub-server to a parent? Its not working, maps to default site instead

Hi

I need a domain say domain2.com to show the website of a server domain1.com. This is fine when creating an alias.

But I need mail on domain2.com... so I have to create it as a sub-server with mail on domain. And I disabled Apache on this domain because I dont want it to show the files in its own public_html folder under the /domains/ folder... I need it to show the parent website.

But this means that domain2.com is NOT mapped to the parent server, but the default server which is not the parent.

So how do I map a sub-server to its parent to show the parent site, so I can have mail at the domain?

Thanks

Hi. Anyone know how to do this? As stated, I need the CPanel equivalent of a Parked Domain on which I can add email account. Seems I can only do this via a sub-server, but then thats not mapped to the parent? Thanks

Howdy,

You can do that by going into Create Virtual Server, and creating a "Alias Server with Own Email".

An Alias Server uses the same DocumentRoot as it's parent, and the above option also allows you to have email accounts for the alias domain.

Hi andreychek.

Thanks for that, I already tried it, and the problem is there is no option to create users. If I choose the parent, or sub-server, there is a Edit Users link in the left, but nothing for users or aliases if I create an Alias server with own email. Thats probably the issue.

Thanks

Which Virtualmin version are you using?

What you're describing sounds like a bug that Jamie had fixed recently.

Can you see if it works correctly if you upgrade to Virtualmin 3.99?

Upgraded to 3.99.gpl GPL, but still missing Users/Aliases/Emails in the left menu, is there some other setting I need to enable it with?

Thanks

Nuts! Jamie tells me it's actually the next version of Virtualmin, 4.0, which corrects this issue.

He gave me a workaround though that should get things working for you.

He said what you can do is log into your server over SSH as root, and run this command:

virtualmin enable-feature --domain domain2.com --dir

After you do that, do you then see the Edit Users link for domain2.com?

I can now see "Edit User" and can add users... when I add a user there are less Email options than a normal server though, like no Aliases or Mail Forward settings... is this supposed to be like that?

Ideally what we would need is to add an Alias server, but have full email management the same as if it was a top level server.

Hi, was there a solution to this please? I have another customer needing this now too.

We need full email management for server aliases.

Thanks

Oh ignore this, I just fixed it...

Basically the parent server has to have Mail Enabled for the Domain. We do not need mail for the parent server so it was not enabled. What was confusing was the sub-server alias still allowed us to create Users with email, but far less options, so this confused us. If we enable mail for the parent server (even though we dont need it) we can then add mail on the sub-server alias and looks like they now get all options!

Thanks
