Hi All,
I'm trying to do something I thought would be really simple - I have a domain created in virtualmin eg. foo.com, and the admin user is just called 'foo'.
I've lost the password for this user and simply want to change the user's password.
I've logged into virtualmin as root.
When I go into the menu option for edit users I can see the user. I click on the user name and it takes me to the details, email settings etc. Nothing about passwords. So I then go into "Login to Usermin". In Usermin there is an option to change the password, but you have to enter the old password too! Aaarrgh.
After extensive googling and searching I've logged into the server via shell and tried the following:
root@:~# virtualmin modify-user --domain foo.com --user foo --pass newpassword
But this gives an error: The user foo is the owner of server foo.com, and so cannot be modified
Like what?!??!? ;-)
This has been very frustrating. I've even just tried good old 'passwd foo' on the root prompt, but it doesn't seem to have changed anything (ie I can't get into the restricted directories on the server website).
Can anyone please help? I think I must be missing something VERY obvious.
Cheers V
Hi,
You can change the password for the "main" user by going to:
Virtualmin > Edit Virtual Server
Under the
Configurable settings
checkSet to...
for theAdministrative password
then clickSave
.Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot! That worked perfectly. I knew it had to be simple and obvious - I just couldn't find it before for the life of me.
Thanks again, V
Hi,
No problem, some features aren't always published in the most obvious places, so I'm glad to have been able to help you out with this one :-)
