Hi,
I've got an extra spamfilter setup that is a external server running ASSP. In my records I point the MX record to spamcheck.domainname.com. Mail is then forwarded from spamcheck to the virtualmin server. All works ok. But now I want to change something in the dns and I get a warning:
Warning - errors were found in this domain's DNS records : This domain has email enabled, but none of the MX records spamcheck.domainname.com point to it. Either the MX records should be corrected, or the email feature disabled if mail is hosted externally.
Mail is not hosted externally, the mailbox is just on the first house on the block. The 'person' living in that house is filtering the mail and then drops the mail in box of the house that Virtualmin lives in....
So, I've got an A-record telling where spamcheck.domainname.com (in the domainname.com) is located, also in domainname.com I've got a MX-record that points mail to spamcheck.domainname.com. And in each otherdomain.com I've got a MX-record that points mail to spamcheck.domainname.com.
All mail goes through spamcheck.domainname.com before spamcheck delivers it at the virtualmin machine. Works good.
But I don't get the warning.... (No, no dhcp or whatever is mentioned in other posts concerning this warning applies. Or I did just not found the right one, or recognise the right one)
Anyone that can explain it to me?
Thanks
Howdy,
Well, in most cases, when someone has email enabled, but the MX record pointing somewhere else, that causes problems. Virtualmin gives a warning for that particular case, since it's usually not what folks want.
However, in your case, it is indeed what you want -- and it's safe to ignore that particular warning.
