Backing Up via FTP

Hello,

I've read the tutorials on backing up one server and backing up all virtual servers, but they only address downloading through the browser or backing up to a directory on the VPS.

https://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/tutorial/how-to-backup-a-virtua...

https://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/tutorial/how-to-backup-all-virt...

I'd like to back up via ftp to a cloud back up server that I purchased. I think I can figure the interface out with the exception of the dialog box about file on server for destination. How do I make sure that the each virtual server is backed up with a file name so I will know which one is backed up? Is there a variable that I can specify that will be replaced with the actual name of the server when back up occurs?

Thanks.

Howdy,

Hmm, I'm not entirely certain I understand what you're asking... but a common way to perform backups (whether on a local or remote server) is to backup to something like /mnt/backups/daily_%d. That would keep 30 days of backups.

Then, specify an email address to email when there's an error.

So, if anything goes wrong during the backup process, you would get an email. Otherwise, all your backups are in the directory daily_NN (where NN is the day of the month).

The variables you can specify are all time-based though, you can't specify a variable for the server name.
