Installing Virtualmin on Ubuntu Desktop 11.04

I am new at this and want to learn about running a webserver on my Ubuntu Desktop 11.04

I have loaded webmin but would like to add a few sites with there own admin panel. I have a few questions regarding Virtualmin.

  1. Can I load Virtualmin on Ubuntu Desktop 11.04 and how do I go about it
  2. What is the diff between Webmin and Virtualmin?
  3. Is there a free version or do I have to purchase a licence and how much is it.

Thanks

Howdy,

The Virtualmin installer supports Ubuntu 10.04, the LTS release, but not Ubuntu 104.

My suggestion would be to use the automatic installer on Ubuntu 10.04, that makes things super easy :-)

You can download the installer using the "Download" link above.

If you prefer using Ubuntu 11.04, it can be done, but is a lot more work, and requires a high level of Linux expertise to do that. You can read about performing a manual installation here:

https://www.virtualmin.com/documentation/installation

There are two versions of Virtualmin, a Pro and a GPL version. The GPL version is free. You can read about the differences of them here:

As far as Webmin vs Virtualmin -- Webmin is a system control panel. It's designed to help a root user manage their system.

Virtualmin is a Webmin module. It provides an interface to enable shared web hosting within Webmin.
