Hello I'm Italian and I do not know well vps server, because after a reboot not start the applications, I was wrong and I selected from level 2 to level 1, thinking that was the problem. Now when I go to https: / / my_host: 10000 / webmin no longer opens and I can not fix everything. Who can help me please? Thanks to all for help Alex

You could try launching Webmin manually, by running this command as root:

/etc/init.d/webmin start

Give that a try and let us know if it helps!

If that doesn't work -- do you get any error messages when you run that command?

hello, thanks for giving me risponto, I can not log in at https htto or I do not know other ways to enter the VPS. you can tell me how to enter with ssl because I do not know. if you can help because it all started after a reboot of the server, applications do not panting more, then I put a level 1 and level 2 are no longer able to enter.

now I've explained everything, we hope to get back to https.

100 thanks for your help

Run level 1 is single user mode, so you probably don't want that.

I'd recommend booting into whatever run level you were using when you first installed Virtualmin.

Once you do that, you can log into your server over SSH as root to run commands. You can use tools such as "putty" to access SSH on your server.

Once you've logged into your server as root, you can then try to start Webmin from the command line (using /etc/init.d/webmin start).

I'm sorry Eric, I have already tried with putty, but I can not put ip host and port 22 access tells me network error: connection refused.

how can I do in other to enter with ssl if putty does not make me come in?

thanks again for your help

Make sure you're booting into a run-level other than 1, which is single user mode.

However, if you're using run level 2 or 3, and none of your daemons are starting up -- the only way to gain access to your server would be through the console. From there, you'd have to check to see what errors are occurring that is preventing your various daemons from starting up.

thanks friend for help, but as I wrote I do not have access through SSL and therefore can not control anything, I can only say that I changed from level 2 to level 1 and after that nothing is gone, so now should be at level 1 But I do not know how to get back to level 2. if I try to ping the host, he says ok, but if I go to https: / / my_host: 10000 is not nothing. if I give you a private ip of my host you want to try to get in?

however, my msn is if you want to talk live.

Unfortunately, that's what run level 1 does -- run level one is "single user mode", meaning that none of the networking services are started up.

You won't be able to remotely access your machine while it's in run level 1 -- you have to somehow reboot the machine and get it back into it's normal run mode.

Most VPS providers offer a control panel of some sort -- you may be able to use your VPS provider's control panel to reboot the machine back into it's normal run level.

Where and how did you switch to runlevel 1?

On Ubuntu, RL 1 is used for (and when activated later will behave like) the "recovery mode" boot, giving you a menu with some recovery functions.

If you just switched to RL 1 temporarily, a server reboot should fix that. If you changed the default runlevel to 1, the system will always start in that mode and you'll need console access (which your VPS hoster hopefully has available) to switch back to 2.

How can I fix it? I have to start it manually every single time?

why does it happen anyway? my other server is completely fine and starts webmin by itself
