In what form does virtualmin save its user/password information for email,
i had dovecot installed on my box before i installed virtualmin and its not configured to use the virtualmin users.
Well, Dovecot should just be authenticating users as they're setup in your /etc/passwd file.
To see what format they're being created in, you can log into Virtualmin, and go into Edit Mail and FTP Users. From there, look at the "IMAP/FTP login" column to see the name you should be using for logging in.
To change what format a user is created in, you can go into System Settings -> Server Templates -> Default -> Mail for Domain. At the bottom of that screen is an option named " Format for usernames that include domain".
