My server did shut down a few days ago, and I haven't been able to find out why yet. Everything seems up and running, however, there's this one weird thing I noticed when a perl script that gets info from another site on another server was showing 404.
when i type ping www.peng.es on the server I get:
ping www.peng.es PING www.peng.es.nl (212.78.185.192) 56(84) bytes of data.
Well, I don't know why it adds the .nl and I don't know what that ip address is doing there. Should be: 213.171.223.35.
What could cause this?
Thanks!
Check out the "search domains" configured on your system. I think they should be noted in
/etc/resolv.conf
.When entering a name query without a trailing ".", the search domains are automatically appended and tried as well.
