DKIM without local BIND?

DKIM is running great on my server, but it seems directly tied to BIND. Disabling BIND for certain domains makes sending mail unavailable (milter reject: END-OF-MESSAGE: 4.7.1 Service unavailable).

Since i use an external DNS, i would like to use DKIM without having to run local DNS servers, how can i achieve this? I have already copied the local TXT entries for DKIM, so the local DNS is more or less redundant at this point.
