Hello!
First time poster here, love the software.
I am working on my first VPS which is running Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope.
I've got Webmin, Virtualmin and Usermin installed and they were working fine. I installed them from the apt-get command line thing. I've got Postfix, Procmail, Dovecot and Spamassassin installed and seemed to be working well when I set up a virtual server from scratch.
I imported a Plesk 9 backup, everything went great. The site has resolved, is working fine. I logged into Virtualmin, went to the "Read user email" link to check and see if the mail had moved over, the email account was in the list so I clicked it and got a page not found.
Since then, I can't get the user interface for Webmin/Virtualmin to pull up at all- I get a page not found. No login screen, nothing. I can still pull up Usermin.
The websites are still there and running but no POP email is working for any virtual server anymore. I tried uninstalling dovecot (I had some difficulty with the initial install) and accessing :10000, then I reinstalled it and still no page found.
It's a weird issue, I know. I couldn't find anything else like it.
When I was still trying to get the whole mail server working, I had a similar issue where I added a user mail box, tried to access it and got a page not found error. At that point, I uninstalled dovecot and it came right back.
I reinstalled dovecot from Webmin's module add screen and everything was working fine. I did not try to add additional email users after that- just aliases to the main account.
Any thoughts?
Howdy,
Well, I'm not exactly sure about the reason for the errors you're seeing. I have a couple of thoughts though --
Take a peek in /var/webmin/miniserv.error, you may see some error messages in there
What is the output of the "free -m" command?
The version of Ubuntu you're running isn't actually one of the versions supported by the installer :-) It only supports the LTS versions. That may or may not be related to the issue you're seeing ATM though...
We've seen some reports from folks running in a low-memory environment -- especially one where no swap is present -- where some of the strangest problems were coming up. So I'm a bit curious if you're running into RAM related problems, but we'll see based on how much RAM you have available and what errors are in the logs.

Wow- I wasn't expecting a response til tomorrow. Thanks!
Here's what I've got-
I read on another thread how to restart the webmin service (init.d) ran that and was able to get back into the interface.
It gave me a notice that it wanted to report an upgraded operating system, I clicked on it, and got page not found errors again.
Restarted webmin service, got in again, no warnings. Did the same thing I did before, Read user mail -> imported user -> This user has no mail -> Return to user list -> page not found error.
Output of free -m
root@server1:~# free -m total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 6000 640 5359 0 0 0 -/+ buffers/cache: 640 5359 Swap: 0 0 0
The version info may be the key to some of my issues... I didn't realize it wasn't supported. Glad I didn't go with Karmic...
Some more recent parts of the log, this may be more helpful!

Maybe memory is the issue... just tried to view the Postfix module page and got this message:
Postfix version 2.5.5
Error while checking current Postfix configuration. Please manually fix Postfix configuration.
/etc/postfix/postfix-script: line 197: /etc/postfix/postfix-script: Cannot allocate memory
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Those are some interesting problems you're seeing there!
Though, is that 6GB of memory you have available? That does seem like a decent amount.
The supported distros/versions are listed here:
http://www.virtualmin.com/os-support
As well as displayed in the initial screen of the install.sh script when you run it ;-)
The memory error you saw regarding Postfix looks suspicious, but it may be a red herring... I have a suspicion most of what you're seeing is regarding the OS support.
It's not that Virtualmin can't run on Jaunty, but the installer isn't able to configure things correctly, nor are there any Virtualmin software repositories for anything but the LTS versions.
Is reinstalling with Hardy an option?
While you could get Jaunty to work, using Hardy might save you some headaches :-)
-Eric
I might try that, thanks. I am having lots of headaches and once I get one thing working, it seems another breaks.
Thanks for the response.
