Installing Java (JRE 1.6) on CentOS5 with Apache 2.2.3... How?

We are interested in installing a CMS that runs on Java instead of PHP: Maintenance Assistant.

The installation guide indicate that it can run on linux/Apache/MySQL framework but JRE 1.6 is required.

I looked through all the Virtual Min/WebMin packages and don't see any installers for this.

We are running CentoOS5

Kernel and CPU Linux 2.6.18-8.el5 on i686

with Apache version 2.2.3

There is mention of "Your Tomcat Proxy" ... but I am, frankly over my head.

Any advice appreciated.

Well, there isn't any particular Java version that's supported or recommended by Virtualmin. We'd typically suggesting using what works best with your distribution :-)

There's a number of different Java/JRE implementations that will work on CentOS. There's a wiki writeup regarding that here:

http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS

While I don't have a specific recommendation, I can offer that I know a lot of folks who prefer Sun's implementation :-)

I hope that helps!
