unable to send e-mail

I am using postfix and i am unable to send e-mail using the mailserver. incoming works fine but the outgoing keeps rejecting the password. Any ideas?

Howdy,

What do you see in the mail logs when trying to connect? That'd be either /var/log/maillog or /var/log/mail.log.

Also, is saslauthd running?

Lastly, make sure your desktop client is set to authenticate outgoing messages -- many don't by default. For example, Outlook requires you check a checkbox to perform auth when sending a message.

this is only on the outgoing.

i have MANUALLY backed up my virtual server settings and am reinstalling the os. virt has been horribly unstable for years for me now. Webmin just works..virt has been a pain though. Unfortunately it is the best of the hosting control programs i have worked with..:(
