post-install configuration failed : Download timed out

"Post-install configuration failed : Download timed out."

While using the script installer to install various scripts. Most of them fail like the error above.

Screen shot of one such failure.

This started happening immediately after i upgraded to Virtualmin Pro. Hell, the scripts were the main reason i upgraded.

If you need anything else from me to help diagnose the problem i will be available.

Thanks in advance

Edit/Update

I just did an uninstall and reinstall of several installer scripts and checked the log files, nothing stands out except for some yahoo trying to brute force my email server.

I did however get this error on reinstall. The error is different than the last bunch of times ive installed scripts.

Edit:Update #2

I noticed a secondary nic that was addressed and i think that was causing conflicts. I disabled the card and reinstalled the script again.

That script is B2evolution. But the same error happens on most applications i install with the script installer. Now i am back to my original error again.

I also noticed that NextCloud installed just fine and functions as it should. No time outs or errors in the log files.

Ideas what can cause some installers to time out and others to function properly?

Does the Virtualmin.com server act as a proxy for the installer files that the Virtualmin systems requests for installations?

Ideas anyone? Help please, I have spend the last 14 hours on this problem.

Edit/Update:

I just noticed that my Virtualmin instance is downloading the B2evolution and other script files from Sourceforge......umm Houston I think we have a problem here!

This could be a way to introduce malicious code into a system. Third party applications are always a security issue. Especially if you cant verify the authenticity of applications.

Request: PGP signing validation of third party / all software installable via Webmin / Virtualmin and the third party script installer.

I am going to do some more research on this subject. I hope all of this coherent enough to follow, i haven’t slept yet and I’m far too obsessive to go to bed now. LOL

I still can use a hand with this issue as it is limiting my ability to use a paid service.

More Data.

"Failed to check connectivity HTTP/1.1 502 Proxy Error Verify that your DNS server is running, that software.virtualmin.com can be resolved, and that no firewall is blocking outgoing HTTP requests."

Ok so that’s a yes.

Hi,

Thanks for the heads up.

Ideas what can cause some installers to time out and others to function properly?

b2evolution install script on Virtualmin is pretty outdated (about seven years behind). We will fix the installer to support the latest b2evolution 7.2.2 in the near future.

This started happening immediately after i upgraded to Virtualmin Pro. Hell, the scripts were the main reason i upgraded.

Sorry about that! We will fix this issue as soon as possible.

Not most of them but the very old ones only. If the script installer pulls the version of the script that is 7 years old but the system is new (PHP version 7.4), no wonder it fails, as an older version of the script is not meant to be run on the newer PHP version.

Thanks for the reply.

So if i understand you correctly, the installer scripts are mostly outdated? I have tried to install 20-30 scripts to see what on earth is going on. I have had only 3 succeed to install and 2 work completely.

They were phpmyadmin and nextcloud. Because of my experience with the installers so far, i have a hard time believing that they can all be outdated that badly.

I haven not checked the versions available from the developers to compare. I assumed that they were kept up to date as IMO the installer feature is the big ticket item that draws in paid subscriptions.

I can take a bunch of screen shots or make a video and place it on Youtube, of me running through the list of installers again.

I am willing to share system specs and any information that you may need to prove one way or anther what the issue is. As i don’t believe that the Webmin / Virtualmin team would let their product and main selling point get so far out of date.

I have used Webmin.gpl for years for my lightweight bootstrap / skeleton sites with no issues of this nature.

No! Some scripts, less used are outdated. There are plenty we have recently upgraded (me personally) but there are some left overlooked.

You are welcome to report which scripts particularly didn't work. It will help us to fix it in timely manner.

They were phpmyadmin and nextcloud.

These are up to date, and must work just perfectly, considering everything on your server has been configured correctly.

No need for this, just report, which script didn't work for you. Most popular scripts installers do work just fine. Please make sure to test those with neutral PHP version, like 7.3 rather than 7.4 or 8.0.

I am willing to share system specs and any information that you may need to prove one way or anther what the issue is.

Please do.

We do care to fix any script that is currently supported by the author!

I have used Webmin.gpl for years for my lightweight bootstrap / skeleton sites with no issues of this nature.

Because GPL version of Virtualmin only includes very basic and small amount of popular and very well tested scripts, while Pro version has more scripts and some not famous scripts are apparently over-watched.

I cleared the cache and disabled it, (Redundant) and it fixed the installer failures i believe. I don’t remember doing anything else to my system. (Shrugs) Oh well, Its not failing with the Timeouts anymore.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I also made a Request with a list of the installer scripts with their respective upgrades.
