Postfix: can receive but not send email to gmail

This is a GCP VM.

Able to receive email from gmail but not send one.

Per this article on Google, port 25 seems to be blocked: https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/tutorials/sending-mail/

Howdy -- thanks for contacting us!

You are indeed correct... GCP doesn't allow sending emails directly from it's servers.

Instead, you'd need to send any outbound email through another provider.

There's some examples of how to go about that in the document you linked to above.

Does that mean I have no choice but to use third party email providers on GCP????

Based on the GCP documentation, that appears to be the case.
