Problem with FTP

Hi there, I have Ubuntu 18.04 + Webmin + Virtualmin + Raid 1

I Have configured to save all data on theraid disk mounted under /home directory. everything works perfectly except FTP. Actually on the local host i'm able to login and upload and download files as i wish to but trying to do the same on a remote computer is not working as expected. as per the filezilla command history it logins then

Status: Connecting to :21... Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Status: Initializing TLS... Status: Verifying certificate... Status: TLS connection established. Status: Logged in Status: Retrieving directory listing... Command: PWD Response: 257 "/" is the current directory Command: TYPE I Response: 200 Type set to I Command: PASV Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (,160,111). Command: MLSD Response: 150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for MLSD Response: 425 Unable to build data connection: Operation not permitted Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

i have no idea what is wrong here.

I don't know the answer, but I'm watching with interest as I have a hosting customer who is using FTP to his account on my server to test the FTP client in an embedded system and it's not making a data connection. I know the FTP software in the embedded system has worked before because i wrote it (!) and tested it years ago with a Debian Linux server over Ethernet. I can do FTP active and passive transfer from my home Linux system so it's not completely broken.
Things to check for: firewall, active vs. passive mode.

Perhaps set filezila to try active mode instead?

Perhaps the following might help...

  1. check ports

And 2.

You can however reach from out that location with SSH those files. ( ok Ok is other port but short test)?

If so you can have as workarround trying FSTP

WINSCP i like as FTP .... Client

( firewalls, settings for the good tls and ciphers and such...)

IF FTP as root can you reach files from virtualmin box itself, so not the user files on external disk to test to , and then the disk....
