Hello so this week my second server had its bind DNS server crash frequently. It was getting really bad, its been so bad that my host name isin't propagated in my area anymore..
I was just wondering if anyone knew what today's update(bind9) was about and also have you experienced the same ?
Howdy,
You may want to check with your distro vendor's changelog for the updated package, I'm unfortunately not quite sure what the changes were.
As far as BIND crashing, that may point to a resource issue though.
What output do you receive when running these commands:
uptime
free -m
dmesg | tail -30
Hello, this is the output.
Howdy,
Hmm, it does look like you're a bit low on RAM there, though I'm not seeing anything too unusual in that dmesg output that would explain BIND crashing or being unavailable.
You may want to ensure any services you don't need are disabled.
But if you run into an issue with BIND again, try running that "dmesg" command as soon as you can afterwards, if see if you spot any messages talking about OOM Killer, BIND, or similar.

Ok sweet, thanks alot.
So as for the services that i dont need, all i use is apache, ssl, mysql, dovcot.
Should i disable everything else? (awstats, weblizer, virus scanner ect)
