Virtualmin interface refuses to load any modules

Ok everything was fine at least as of last Friday, but today none of the usual stuff loads when I access it, all I get is "Warning! In order to have System Information displayed you will need to enable System Status module in user settings." and a couple almost empty lists on the right, both under webmin and virtualmin. No site lists, nothing. Webmin.acl seems to have everything listed as it should, I've tried restarting webmin and restarting the whole system.

I'm GPL running 1.881 on Debian Jessie (8) with all updates applied. Kernel version if it matters is 4.15.8-x86_64-linode103

I can dredge up whatever logs people think is useful but so far nothing I'm seeing has helped me look up a solution.

I copied parts of URLS from another server that's still running fine and tried to jump directly to the theme settings (/webmin/edit_themes.cgi) and got a 404? Also got one on another trying to go to usermin config (/usermin/?xnavigation=1)?!?!?!?! This is a production machine, but is there a procedure to refresh a debian package or virtualmin install? I don't want to nuke what's there, I've got backups but it'd be a heck of a job to restore every server.

Nevermind folks, after some digging and a quick system image in case it went wrong, apt-get's reinstall command seems to have squared me away, except for trying to figure out what the heck happened in the first place. That's something that's a little more worry some as whatever it is seems to have only affected webmin/virtualmin and resulted in pages being missing. Unfortunately in my haste I failed to check if the local copies were actually gone :(
