Odd looking pages

HI

I see various odd looking items on my website depicted by a open square. Asif the font is not loaded or a wrong codepage is set. I assume it has something to do with the Apache settingds that may be set standrd for US charactersets.

We us the system in Europe so we need a different set or at least something more common.

I just have no clue what to set where to eliminate these stipud looking empty squares and other items that were not prtogrammed into the page but somehow seem to pop up once the file is put on the server.

Any suggestions to solve this are most welcome.
