virtual server website directory has whmcs files in it, however virtualmin dashboard for this server is blank (not even a menu)

Hi guys, this one has me stumped...

I have whmcs installed on a virtualmin virtual server account...i also have another virtual account as my own name (so there are two virtual servers listed in virtualmin.

for some reason the whmcs virtual server has suddenly gone completely blank...there is not even a virtualmin dashboard for it...even though it is listed under virtual servers alongside my own domain name.

If i go into webmin, i can navigate to the whmcs virtual server directory and see all of the files and folders...everything is there as it should be, but the dashboard for it is a complete blank...not even a dashboard menu.

The other domain is fine.

Finally, the webmin dashboard tab is visible from both sites, so this appears to be a problem with my virtualmin virtual server...its as if virtualmin no longer believes that the whmcs virtual server is actually installed, although its not until one clicks on the virtual server list in virtualmin that it all goes completely blank???

The only dashboard menu item visible is "System information" (there is absolutely zero menus below it)

I am not sure how this happened, it was working yesterday, now its not. How do i fix this?

I'm not sure I understand what you're describing. Could you post a screenshot of what you're seeing for the problem domain? (issue tracker allows attaching files, or you could link to an image hosted elsewhere)

Here is a link to image in googledrive

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7IkcUtUKfX8bk9KdlAxMnZmNzA

as you can see, image on left shows two virtual servers...the whmcs one is the lower one. On the right side of the image in googe drive you can see what screen is visible when one navigates to whmcs virtual server.

The second image below shows that the filemanager view clearly visible are all of the whmcs directory folders and files.

OK, yeah, that's a bug! I've never seen that behavior before, and I'm having a hard time even imagining how it would happen.

Can you look in /var/webmin/miniserv.error while selecting the domain, to see if there's any errors appearing there? I feel certain it must be erroring out due to invalid data in the domain metadata, because even in case of configuration problems it should not prevent displaying the menu at all.

While we're at it, it might be worth looking at the metadata file itself to see if there's some clues there. That'll be in /etc/webmin/virtual-server/domains, and the file name will be the ID of the domain. You can find that with the Virtualmin command:

# virtualmin list-domains --id-only --domain problem.domain.tld

Where problem.domain.tld would obviously be replaced by the domain in question. It should contain a bunch of key=value pairs.

Hi Joe,

I am a little confused about the time shown...as i have just logged into server this morning and last error log was yesterday...not sure what the go is with that (perhaps there is no error this morning in this file?) The miniser.error log is saying...

Module postfix does not exist (ok so i suspected that was the case).

I dont know how to post urls in this forum so the following is missing most of its url.

Failed to get ratings [27/Sep/2017:22:38:27 +0000] [120.146.145.157] Document follows : This web server is running in SSL mode. Try the URL "https://server3.c..internal:10000/'>https://server3.c..internal:10000/" instead.

Also, running the command "virtualmin list-domains --id-only --domain "whmcs.mydomain.com.au" retuns the following error

"Error: Module postifx does not exist"

When i attempt to reinstall postfix using webmin dashboard...

Installing package(s) with command apt-get -y -f install postfix .. Reading package lists... Building dependency tree... Reading state information... Suggested packages: procmail postfix-mysql postfix-pgsql postfix-ldap postfix-pcre dovecot-common postfix-cdb mail-reader postfix-doc The following NEW packages will be installed: postfix Preconfiguring packages ... 0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded. Need to get 0 B/1152 kB of archives. After this operation, 3697 kB of additional disk space will be used. dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting: unknown group 'smmsp' in statoverride file E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2) .. install failed!

Is that a bug in debain/ubuntu? (see ask ubuntu forum post about it... https://askubuntu.com/questions/335538/unknown-user-in-statoverride-file)

Joe, i suspect that this entire issue has risen by my having installed email functionality, then completely removing it again via numerous methods (i am not sure exactly what methods i have used...some would have been through the virtualmin interface, but i may have also done it through shell as well)

I would like to forward on to you a link to my google drive folder with all of the relevant files in it for this forum topic. however, i am unsure how to do that as some of the log files contain ip addresses and google account service names usernames and passwords in them which i do not wish to be made public. How do i provide you with my google drive link privately?

Open a private ticket in the issue tracker for sensitive information. Only admins here (me, Jamie, Eric, and Ilia) can see those.

But, I believe you're seeing the OOM killer. When you see a bunch of weird ass errors all over the place (which you're definitely seeing), I'd bet dollars to donuts it's a memory problem. Check your dmesg for out of memory errors.

# dmesg

I'll be surprised if you don't have a few.

yay, i have resolved the error when trying to install postfix. It turns out that the "ask Ubuntu" link that i put up was right...here is the fix that i used to be able to install postfix.

Notice the error says... ":unknown group 'smmsp' in statoverride file"

In following what the guys in ask ubuntu said about this, i edited the file /var/lib/dpkg>statoverride removing anything to do with "smmsp".

As soon as i did that, postfix installed first go.

Ok so that part of the problem is now fixed...now to check what happens when i try to go into whmcs virtual server??? Here goes...WWWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Problem solved yeah baby!

Total genius are those guys at ask ubuntu!
