Email doesn't arrived

Hello, I've configured my VPS with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I've configured all with Virtualmin Pro and the result was ok (I think is ok :D ). It seems ok looking at the Re-Check Configuration: Your system has 3.86 GB of memory, which is at or above the Virtualmin recommended minimum of 256 MB. BIND DNS server is installed, and the system is configured to use it. Mail server Postfix is installed and configured. Postfix is configured to support per-domain outgoing IP addresses. Apache is installed. The following PHP versions are available : 5.5.9 (/usr/bin/php5-cgi) PHP-FPM support was not detected : No FPM configuration directory found Webalizer is installed. Apache is configured to host SSL websites. MySQL is installed and running. ProFTPD is installed. Logrotate is installed. SpamAssassin and Procmail are installed and configured for use. ClamAV is installed and assumed to be running. The System and Server Status module is installed and checking on schedule. Plugin AWstats reporting is installed OK. Plugin DNS Domain Registration is installed OK. Plugin Protected web directories is installed OK. Using network interface eth0 for virtual IPs. IPv6 addresses are available, using interface eth0. All commands needed to create and restore backups are installed. Resource limits are supported and configured correctly. The selected package management and update systems are installed OK. .. your system is ready for use by Virtualmin.

In GoDaddy, I've changed the DNS with MX record (MX 10 mail.mydomain.com // MX 10 smtp.mydomain.com)

Ok...In my domain I've installed Roundcube to send and receive email. I've a problem unfortunately. Connecting to www.mydomain.com/roundcube, if I send an email to anyone it run, from account mydomain@mydomain.com (as virtualmin create default), but if I write an email from an external address (goofy@gmail.com) to mydomain@mydomain.com doesn't arrived. In the gmail panel of goofy@gmail.com doesn't appear wrong message or returns with error the email, simple it seems that something doesn't work well. Please, could anyone help me? Thanks in advance for replies. Best

Michele

Hello!

Kindly check your website here: http://intodns.com/yourdomain.com and ensure that the MX record is set and it resolves to the IP address of your server. You should also check that postfix server is up and running, and also run: virtualmin validate-domains --all-domains --all-features to ensure mail folders exist.

I'd also recommend running a test on https://www.mail-tester.com/ and check the score of emails sent from your server.

Howdy -- note that Ubuntu 10.04 has reached it's end of life two years ago.

Ubuntu 12.04 is about to reach it's end of life this May.

We'd highly recommend a newer distribution, so that you're receiving security updates.

Regarding the email issue though -- you may want to look in the email logs around the time you've attempted to send an email, and see if there's any errors occurring.

The tools Mostafa mentioned above can also be used to help ensure that post 25 is reachable.

Hi, sorry I've installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS instead 10.04, it's my mistake. I've typed wrong. Ok, I try your suggestion, thank you. I return the response, thank again. Best Michele

Hello, I've tried the instruments named above-mentioned, and I've found these errors: https://intodns.com/mydomain.com found 2 errors: MX Records: Your MX records that were reported by your nameservers are:

10 mail.mydomain.com No A Record (no glue either) 0 smtp.mydomain.com No A Record (no glue either)

[These are all the MX records that I found. If there are some non common MX records at your nameservers you should see them below. ]

and: Duplicate MX A records: ERROR: It seems that all your MX records have the same IP(s): There is no use on having multiple MX records pointing to the same ip.

In Virtualmin: My virtual server (mydomain.com)---> Server Configuration -----> email settings BCC incoming email to Not currently enabled in your Postfix configuration

Command line via Terminal, if I launch: postconf -n the result is: postconf: warning: /etc/postfix/master.cf: undefined parameter: mua_sender_restrictions postconf: warning: /etc/postfix/master.cf: undefined parameter: mua_client_restrictions postconf: warning: /etc/postfix/master.cf: undefined parameter: mua_helo_restrictions

So, the problem is this? The Undefined parameters above? Thanks in advance for a reply. Best. Michele

The Postfix notices appear to just be warnings, you should be able to ignore that for now.

Where is your DNS being hosted? Is that hosted at your registrar, or on your Virtualmin server?

No, hosting company is Linode, my registrar is GoDaddy. DNS are hosted at GoDaddy.

Gmail reported me these errors about the email mydomain@mydomain.com

Final-Recipient: rfc822; mydomain@mydomain.com Action: delayed Status: 4.0.0 Diagnostic-Code: smtp; DNS Error: 6161638 DNS type 'mx' lookup of mydomain.com responded with code NOERROR 6161638 DNS type 'aaaa' lookup of smtp.mydomain.com. responded with code NXDOMAIN 6161638 DNS type 'a' lookup of smtp.mydomain.com. responded with code NXDOMAIN 6161638 DNS type 'aaaa' lookup of mail.mydomain.com. responded with code NXDOMAIN 6161638 DNS type 'a' lookup of mail.mydomain.com. responded with code NXDOMAIN

Yeah it's looking like there are some DNS issues with the current setup over at GoDaddy.

Would it be possible for you to share the domain name in question?

We can use that to perform some DNS tests.

The domain is filmogenic.eu

Okay, it looks like your MX records are setup to point to these two domains:

smtp.filmogenic.eu
mail.filmogenic.eu

It doesn't look like those domain names resolve though. You'd need to ensure that the names being used for your MX record resolve to an IP address -- meaning they would need a DNS 'A' record added for them in the GoDaddy control panel.

Thank you for your precious help. Fixed all problems and now it works. Thank you again. Best Michele

No problem, glad to hear things are working for you now!
