How to upgrade PHP version and MySQL version with Virtualmin?

Dear Support Team,

I am new to Virtualmin and to VPS management, I just bought the Virtualmin Pro subscription a couple of days ago, I am still learning.

I would like to install Wordpress on my Linode VPS.

Currently I see that my PHP version is 5.4.16 and MySQL version is 5.5.52-MariaDB.

By checking the Wordpress system requirements recommendation, they recommend for:

PHP 7 or greater MySQL 5.6 or greater The mod_rewrite Apache module HTTPS support

Could you please give me some guidance about what should I do to upgrade them?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Centos backports all the updates/patches/bug-fixes but it will not change the software version same as will not add functions from never PHP versions. Having said that you can find my post in "Third Party News" how to upgrade PHP 5.4 to 5.6 with Remi repo. Why i didnt chose different (newer) version of PHP i explained in my post.

When it comes to MySQL is little different as upgrading could cause some problems to arise and is more complicated than PHP.

Either way both actions are not 100% foolproof and they should be left for someone who have good or better knowledge of server management. Nothing bad will happen if you stay with current software and until WP doesnt require minimum software version bigger than you have with Centos you will be fine.

Understood, thank you very much for your clarification, I will leave them untouched to avoid problems.
