/var/log/mail.log postfix log unreadable

Hello,

I'm trying to configure postfix on Ubuntu 16.04 to send email as a google g suite account, details at this thread: https://www.virtualmin.com/node/48888#comment-772331

I'm having authentication problems and google servers respond with helpful info and links to follow to fix problems, which are appearing in the log. The problem is that random characters are showing in the log also and so I cannot be sure that the links are unaltered. I think one of the links might be to a captcha page, which I need to follow to allow access, but I can't get it to work.

The log looks like this:

Mar  1 21:37:14 monster postfix/pickup[12455]: 56A3639FD0: uid=0 from=<root@monster.rikdeakin.com>
Mar  1 21:37:14 monster postfix/cleanup[13620]: 56A3639FD0: message-id=<20170301213714.56A3639FD0@monster.rikdeakin.com>

Any ideas how to stop the extra text from being logged please?

Many thanks in advance, - Rik

Hey,

I can read that log you pasted here very clearly, it is indeed very much readable. As you noted, you have some auth. issues, however even of your auth. is successful - that is how google communicate or at least the way how you communicate with google and it all depends on your setup - perhaps google have some docs somewhere. You can google it. That log does telling you where your login attempts failing. There is no way to not log any extra text - logs are logs and been created in way how they mean to work - log everything, however you can phrase your logs in terminal to extract that extra text to be ignored, but as you know you can google this out as well. If you still unsure you can hire some professionals like me or virtualmin guys here on this website or forums. - good luck.

Configuring/troubleshooting Debian servers is always great fun
